On September 24, 2010, Minnesota Privacy Consultants conducted a security assessment of the payment process on richardvigilantebooks.com.  The site uses industry-standard security.  In particular, once a site visitor begins the purchase process, the Web session is encrypted with the SSL protocol.  This shopping cart is provided by Yahoo! Stores, which has been audited by Accuvant to be PCI DSS certified.  PCI DSS is the security standard of the payment-card industry.  These audits require a full network and onsite assessment.  Yahoo! is also TRUSTe privacy certified.  For its part, Richard Vigilante Books retains no credit-card information of book purchasers, limits access to its Yahoo! account to two individuals, and maintains PCI-compliant passwords and standard antivirus mechanisms.  While no security approaches are immune to sophisticated attacks, this payment process follows comparable security measures of other online stores.
